Establishment of a New R&D Base in Yokohama City in Kanagawa Prefecture to Research and Develop Underlying Technology Related to Next-Generation Semiconductors

KOKUSAI ELECTRIC CORPORATION (President and Chief Executive Officer: Fumiyuki Kanai, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan) will establish a new R&D base in Yokohama City in Kanagawa Prefecture to research and develop underlying technology related to next-generation semiconductors. It is scheduled to start full-scale operations as an R&D base at the end of FY2024 after an office opens for preparation in late January 2024. For the establishment of this R&D base, the company receive a subsidy from Yokohama City, using the 2023 Yokohama City Subsidy Program for New Business Locations in Next-Generation Priority/Growth Areas.

1.Purpose of Establishing a New R&D Base

We will further strengthen the research and development system in Japan by setting up a new R&D base in Yokohama City in addition to the Toyama Technology & Manufacturing Center already in operation. We will also promote the creation of new business and technologies through cooperation with semiconductor-related companies, universities, research institutes, and other organizations nearby.
